Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants

These grants are awarded by schools and provide assistance for undergraduates with the greatest financial need — in other words, students with the lowest Expected Family Contributions (EFCs). The federal government gives the campus a set amount of money and the campus disburses the funds to the eligible students. The program gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants; however, there's no guarantee that every eligible student will be able to receive a FSEOG. Students at each school receive FSEOG based on the availability of funds at that school.

These federal grants range from $100 to $4,000 per award year. Funds are limited so most eligible students do not receive the maximum award.
